Discussing Marketing Campaign Ideas with Your Marketing Team

Nate · June 4, 2019 · Leave a Comment

All marketing campaigns begin with the discussion of ideas. It is crucial for you to have a strong marketing team since the people in the group will determine what the next campaign will look like. You can also join the discussion and facilitate the flow of ideas.

Throwing everything out

At this stage, you cannot judge the response as right or wrong. Allow everyone just to spit things out. You do not need to finalise the decision yet since you still have a lot of things to do. You also cannot analyse the ideas proposed if you do not give yourself the chance to further think about them.

Brainstorming sessions are necessary

It is not enough for you to only rely on one brainstorming session. It is crucial to undergo several sessions if you want to achieve great results. Along the way, you will keep refining the ideas already given from the start. Perhaps, you can start to stick with quality campaign ideas once you remove the ones you deem as extreme.

Allow more freedom

You do not need to dictate to the team what they can and cannot do. You want them to be free in determining how to move forward with the campaign. Some of them think like artists. They want to be open during the process and not feel like someone else is stopping them from doing what they think is right.

Give everyone the chance to defend their ideas

You might think that some of the ideas are crazy and random. However, they might work. Consumers already feel tired of hearing or seeing the same ads over and over again. These new ideas might work if given a chance. Therefore, before you abandon any idea, it is crucial that you listen to your marketing team. The explanation might be reasonable enough to approve the launching of that campaign.

Test the ads

If your team already has marketing plans and concrete results, you can decide whether you will move forward or not. If yes, you can start with the other employees first. Let them decide if the ads are good enough. If they do not buy the advertisements, you can expect most consumers to feel the same way.

You may also conduct a focus group discussion and show the ad to the chosen individuals. Let them offer their honest opinion about the ad and see if they generally have a positive feeling towards it.

Changes will happen many times

You need to be honest with your employees by saying that marketing ideas need refinement. Even if you already approved the general plan, you might still need to change the output further until it becomes perfect. For instance, if you intend to release promotional merchandise, the final design might look different from the first one presented to you, and it is okay. It does not mean that the first ideas were terrible. It shows that everyone worked hard towards perfection.

Start the discussion now and come up with a campaign that you can launch.
